Malacca pre-war building collapses after accident

MALACCA - Two blocks of a pre-war building in Jalan Kubu here collapsed after a car rammed into the pillars of one the empty shoplots.

In the 7am incident, the driver of the car, in his late 20s, claimed he was trying to avoid a motorcycle at a junction near the building when he lost control of the vehicle before ramming into the pillars.

Witness Siah Chok Lin, 35, said the driver of the car was shaken when he got out of his car unscathed.

The building, located in the old quarter of the historic city, is next to Jonker Street and the Jalan Kubu fire and rescue station.

Fire department officers were at the scene to help clear the debris.
