In an act of kindness that showed the meaning of being Malaysian, two Malay nasi lemak hawkers gave free food to an elderly Chinese woman at a flat in Kuala Lumpur, reported China Press.
Their caring gesture was discovered on Tuesday morning by one Eric Chan, who posted the touching story on a social media website.
He also shared a picture of one of the hawkers and the woman, who used a walking stick and could not speak a word of Bahasa Malaysia.
Asked why they refused to accept the woman's payment for the nasi lemak and bananas, one of the hawkers said they felt sorry for the woman who, despite her old age, had to go out on her own to get food.
"On the eve of Malaysia Day, it's proven again and again that we love one another regardless of our race. We are Malaysians," wrote Chan.
