Malay members of a residents association in Batu Pahat threw a Chinese New Year party for their Chinese residents on Sunday, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The association's vice-president, only known as Abdul Razak, 53, said the relationship between Chinese and Malay residents had always been excellent, with community members visiting each other during festive seasons.

"The Chinese community will actively participate when we organise activities for Hari Raya. That is why we specially organised a Chinese New Year celebration this year for all," he said.

One committee member, Seow Hui Mao, 68, pointed out that Malay residents were the ones who pooled their resources to organise the event to promote racial unity.
