Malaysia police on the hunt for three intruders after sea chase

KOTA KINABALU - The hunt is on for three suspected intruders following the pursuit of an unidentified vessel by Malaysian security forces in waters off Semporna district.

A Malaysian patrol craft spotted the vessel with three individuals at about 5.45pm on Thursday in waters between Pulau Tanjung Sironggol and Pulau Maiga.

The patrol craft gave chase and tried to intercept the boat.

When the Malaysian patrol closed the gap to 20m, the boat headed towards shallow waters at a coral reef near Pulau Maiga.

The s chase had to be aborted because of the shallow water.

The unidentified boat was then spotted heading towards Pulau Gaya.

Eastern Sabah Security Command chief Datuk Rashid Harun declined to elaborate on the incident, only saying that security forces were conducting operations.

Rashid, along with other senior officers and personnel, observed a minute's silence at the Esscom headquarters in Lahad Datu yesterday in memory of the victims of the MH17 tragedy.
