KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has arrived for the public rally at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman here to give his speech, ahead of Umno's annual general assembly that starts on Tuesday.

The Umno deputy president was accompanied by party vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.

Hails of "sokong Tan Sri', Allahuakbar, Hidup Umno, Hidup Tun M and hidup Tan Sri greeted their arrival, with a full house anticipating his speech.

Some brought their own chairs to the hall just so that they could listen to their leaders talk.

Journalists and supporters mobbed the three speakers as they made their way into the hall. Some nearly fell down under weight of the rush of people.

On Nov 24, it was decided that Muhyiddin would not be allowed to address the Umno general assembly, which starts on Tuesday, despite his party position.

It is customary for the deputy president to give the policy speech at the joint-opening of three Umno wings and also deliver a winding-up speech at the end of the assembly.

After the decision was made, Muhyiddin said he would not keep quiet and would continue to talk about his rights even though he was not delivering the opening speech at the party's Wanita, Youth and Puteri general assemblies.

He said the speech mattered to him as it stated his hopes and vision for the party so it would remain strong during these challenging times.
