PETALING JAYA: A highway patrol police officer was killed after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed during a heavy downpour.

Lance Corporal Suhaimi Che Morat, 32, died at the Selayang Hospital yesterday morning from his injuries.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said L/Kpl Suhaimi was on his rounds from the Gombak toll plaza towards the Karak Highway when the accident took place at about 10pm on Wednesday.

Near the DUKE highway exit to Karak, L/Kpl Suhaimi was believed to have lost control of his Mitsubishi Lancer cruiser, causing it to spin to the right side of the highway before slamming into a concrete pillar.

"He was pulled out alive but died six hours later at the hospital.

"His body has been buried in his hometown in Jitra," said ACP Ali.
