Raging torrent: Vehicles stranded in a gushing flood waters at the Kajang Market area in Kajang, Selangor.

BALIK PULAU - A supervisor was killed when the concrete roof of an electronics factory collapsed during torrential downpour and strong winds in Bayan Lepas.

Wan Ahmad Nadzari Wan Mokhtar, 48, died at the scene of the accident at 6.30pm yesterday.

Firemen had to dig his body out of the rubble.

Several villages in Air Putih, Taman Manggis and Titi Teras became flooded after the 45-minute downpour.

Teluk Bahang MP Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah said roads and houses were flooded in about 0.8m of water.

"Villagers whose houses were affected by the floods will be given temporary shelter," he said.

Heavy rains also caused massive jams in Bayan Baru and George Town between 6pm and 8pm.

The arrival hall of the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas was also flooded.

In Kajang, several roads were hit by flash floods after an hour-long downpour.

The affected roads include Jalan Bukit and Jalan Jelok 3 near the Kajang Market.

"The flash floods occurred after a one-hour downpour in the township," said Kajang Municipal Council corporate planning and public relations unit assistant director Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman yesterday.

He said the water went up to about 0.9m high, but receded after about 30 minutes.

He said checks showed that the source of the flood was believed to be an overflowing Sungai Jelok due to the sudden deluge of water and sand clogging up the river.
