ALOR SETAR - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained a senior officer at a state department here for asking for sexual favours from housing applicants.

According to a source, the civil servant in his 50s asked to have sex with several single mothers in exchange for approving their applications for the people's housing project.

He was arrested at a hotel in Jalan Putra here at about 2pm yesterday.

"A single mother in her 20s was one of his victims," the source revealed.

The source said the man was arrested following information MACC received on him and after several months of monitoring his movements.

The suspect has been detained for further investigation under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.
