Malaysian police to monitor child porn student upon his return

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Malaysia - Police will keep an eye on Nur Fitri Azmeer Noordin, the Malaysian student convicted and jailed for child pornography charges in Britain when he returns home after serving his sentence.

"He committed the offence there so he will need to serve his time there and eventually he will come back. He will be on our radar as we take this offence seriously, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

"Paedophilia is not that evident yet in Malaysia, but we are always vigilant and we will take action if there are any signs," he told a press conference at the Central Seberang Prai police district headquarters here.

He also said there was no law that required for a sexual offenders registry accessible to the public, but said it could be a possibility in the future.

Khalid was in Penang Wednesday to inspect the police's preparations ahead of polling day for the Permatang Pauh by-election here.
