Malaysian taxi driver involved in expat's kidnap arrested

KUALA LUMPUR - Police have acted swiftly in the case of an attempted kidnapping of a British expatriate in Bangsar here three weeks ago.

In response to the victim's letter published in the New Straits Times yesterday, city police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said they arrested the taxi driver involved in the Sept 23 incident three days later.

He said the 38-year-old suspect was charged in court on Oct 1 with gang robbery.

"He pleaded not guilty and was granted RM8,000 bail. However, he failed to post bail and is still in custody at Sungai Buloh Prison. The case will be mentioned on Oct 29.

"Police have also identified his accomplice. He will be arrested soon."
