Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has taken Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican to task for calling in Chinese ambassador Dr Huang Huikang.

China Press reported yesterday that Reezal Merican had issued a letter and called in Dr Huang over remarks made by the diplomat during a visit to Petaling Street on Friday.

The report also said Nazri had contacted several ministers, including Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, to discuss Dr Huang's statement which was said to be interfering in Malaysia's internal affairs.

It said Nazri had indicated that the matter would be resolved amicably.

Quoting sources, the report added that the Cabinet would discuss the matter soon.

Nazri was said to have had a meeting with Dr Huang, arranged by Chinese commerce associations.

Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Kelantan branch president Datuk Tan Choon Hwa confirmed that the meeting took place but declined further comment.
