PETALING JAYA - PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has been arrested at his home in Denai Alam.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed that the Seri Setia assemblyman was arrested at about 9.45pm on Sunday and was taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

"He has been arrested for the same offence as Adam Adli which is Section 141 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly.

"We will begin investigations as soon as possible and follow up actions will take place after," he said when contacted by The Star Online.

The PKR leader was first taken to Dang Wangi before being sent to the Jinjang central lockup.

Nik Nazmi and student activist Adam Adli were among the protesters who gathered in front of Sogo shopping complex on Saturday to rally against the sodomy conviction of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The 4pm rally outside Sogo had started with a lion dance show for the crowd of about 50 and continued with speeches from Adam, Nik Nazmi and Anwar's daughter Nurul Nuha Anwar.

Adam was arrested by several plainclothes policemen as the rally ended at 5.15pm.

An attempt by police to arrest Nik Nazmi at the rally was, however, unsuccessful as the crowd had wrestled him out of the way.

"I will cooperate but I didn't want things to get more heated than they already were outside the station," the Seri Setia assemblyman had said when met after the rally.
