GEORGE TOWN: A man who caused havoc at a nasi kandar restaurant when he was asked to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST) for his food will be charged in court.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the deputy public prosecutor had instructed that S. Sivakumar, 39, be charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage.

"The police are still looking for the other man involved in the incident," he said when contacted.

Sivakumar is expected to be charged when his three-day remand ends today.

It was reported that two men kicked up a ruckus at the nasi kandar restaurant as they did not want to pay the 50 sen GST for the packet of rice they bought.

The duo punched one of the Bangla-deshi workers in the restaurant, scolded him in Tamil and threw the rice on the floor.

They left and returned to the restaurant 10 minutes later and smashed a glass panel at the outlet with a parang.
