KUALA LUMPUR: A 40-year-old jobless man died after falling 17 floors through the rubbish chute when he was trying to sneak out of his mother's home at the Sri Sabah flats in Cheras here.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Chong Kok Sin said police were alerted about the incident at about 8am on yesterday by residents who found the remains of the man at the rubbish chute.

ACP Chong said the victim's brother revealed the victim had an argument with his wife and had gone to live in his mother's home at the flats since last Friday.

He added that the victim had returned home drunk on Sunday, causing the brother to lock him in the house the following morning as he was worried the victim would go out to drink again.

ACP Chong added that the victim then tried to sneak out through the rubbish chute that was located at the flat laundry before falling 17 floors through the rubbish chute.

He added that when the brother returned home, he was not able to find the victim in the house and only found the victim when he saw a crowd gathered near the rubbish chute downstairs.

ACP Chong said that the post-mortem revealed that the victim died from injuries due to falling.
