JOHOR BARU - A businessman who tampered with a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) meter paid a heavy price for offering a TNB official a RM25,000 (S$9,800) bribe.
Yesterday, Ho Hann Sing, 34, had to pay five times the amount in fines after he admitted to offering the bribe to TNB senior engineer Arizal Ashari for not taking action against him.
Besides the RM125,000 fine, Ho was also sentenced to a day's jail for committing the offence at a restaurant in Jalan 2 in Lima Kedai, near Gelang Patah, on June 6.
He admitted committing the offence under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC) 2009, which carries a jail sentence of up to 20 years and a fine five times the amount of the bribe, or both, upon conviction.
Ho settled the fine.
MACC prosecution officer Noorfazlin Hamdan prosecuted the case while Norain Tupani represented Ho in the case before Sessions Court judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz.
