Man goes for KL joyride in stolen bus

KUALA LUMPUR - A man stole a Go KL bus and took it for a three-hour joyride from Jalan Raja Laut to Jalan Daun Inai Merah near the Desapark City roundabout, where he ditched it after getting the vehicle stuck in a fence.

The bizarre incident began at 7.30am yesterday, when the driver of the bus parked it in front of Medan Mara here and left to find a toilet.

A city police source said an unidentified man then jumped into the vehicle and drove the bus off towards Jalan Semarak. There were no passengers in the bus during the incident.

The missing bus prompted Go KL and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to issue urgent notices online, asking netizens who spot the bus to report its whereabouts immediately.

The man wreaked havoc around the city centre during the early morning rush hour, smashing into three cars while ripping through Jalan Semarak.

"No one was injured,'' the source said. Authorities later found the bus abandoned, with one of its tyres stuck in a fence by the side of the road near the Desapark City roundabout at 10.30am.

Police have obtained fingerprints from the wheel and were working on establishing the identity of the suspect.

Go KL said on Facebook that the operator of the bus, Cityliner Sdn Bhd, had been hauled up to explain the incident.

Go KL promised that action would be taken, viewing the incident as a result of negligence.
