Man lands in hot water after getting fake girlfriend pregnant

A 38-YEAR-OLD man from Jiangsu, China, impregnated a college student whom he had hired to be his girlfriend, according to reports in China Press and Sin Chew Daily.

The man, identified only as Gao, hired the woman via a social media website and took her home to see his parents during the Chinese New Year celebrations last year.

He did so because his parents had frequently pestered him about getting married.

The "couple" shared the same room at his parents' house and had sex.

When the woman later found out that she was pregnant, she went for an abortion while trying to contact Gao, who kept avoiding her.

Last week, the woman decided to look for Gao at his hometown. A confrontation took place and the "couple" eventually reached a settlement with the help of a local legal assistance centre.

It was decided that Gao would foot more than half of the woman's abortion bill. He paid 3,000 yuan (S$651).
