IPOH - The case of a man who was caught on a CCTV recording beating his wife then two months pregnant wife ended amicably when he apologised to her in open court.

Calvin Chik, 27, apologised to Amanda Fong, 20, in front of magistrate Suhaima Mohd Nor yesterday for his behaviour.

"I am sorry for my action. You (addressing Fong) know what happened and why it happened.

"I am sorry for what I did."

Earlier, Chik's counsel Dexter Mah informed the court that his client had also agreed to pay RM2,500 ex-gratia payment to Fong as part of the amicable settlement.

Both parties have agreed to file a joint divorce petition.

"They have also agreed to end their (joint) business venture," Mah added.

Chik, of Taman Pertama here, was charged with causing grievous hurt to Fong at Butik Amanda & Co, at No. 30 (G3) Tingkat Taman Ipoh 11, Ipoh Garden South, about 4pm on Aug 23 last year.

The couple's video went viral over the social media resulting in both sides issuing statements and counter statements to the press over the incident recorded in the CCTV recording before Chik was finally charged in court.
