Massive gatherings expected at Palace of Justice over Anwar's sodomy appeal

PETALING JAYA - Massive gatherings are expected to be held in front of the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya during Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's two-day sodomy appeal.

PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the gatherings were part of their 14-day campaign in leading up to Anwar's appeal against the sodomy charge that is scheduled to be heard by the federal court on Oct 28 and 29.

"In our demands for justice, PKR Youth will launch #RakyatHakimNegara (People are the Nation's Judges).

"This campaign will begin today for 14 days until the day of the appeal begins on Oct 28," he said.

The Seri Setia assemblyman said the campaign was not just to promote solidarity for Anwar, but also to raise awareness among the public to spur their commitment in social reformation and justice.

"The programmes would include, among others, flash mob, road tour, distribution of fliers," he said, adding the highlight of our event will be a ceramah perdana on the night of Oct 28 in Putrajaya.

Nik Nazmi said the programme would kick off with a flash mob on Wednesday in Kelana Jaya, followed by Selayang, Puchong, Hulu Selangor and throughout the nation.

On March 7, the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court's sodomy acquittal of Anwar and sentenced him to five years' jail after finding him guilty of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
