PETALING JAYA- MCA lauded the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that he will personally helm a special committee to strengthen a comprehensive strategic partnership between Malaysia and China.

Its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Najib's personal supervision would speed up the implementation and execution of joint projects with China.

"We are optimistic about the business prospects with China, especially since our nation has successfully established a safe and convenient business environment for foreign investors.

"We hope that the Government and the rakyat stay the course in maintaining a harmonious and stable environment in order for Malaysia to maintain competitiveness," he said in a statement yesterday.

Liow added that Najib's visit to China would help the two governments develop the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) to its full potential.

"We have progressed rapidly in the 40 years since we first established diplomatic ties with China.

"Now, Malaysia and China enjoy cooperation not only in trade and economy, but also in the fields of culture, education, science and technology, agriculture, automotive, finance, infrastructure as well as cultural exchanges," he said yesterday.

Liow noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to the goal of increasing bilateral trade to US$160bil (RM514bil) over the next five years.

He was also pleased to note the establishment of Xiamen University in Malaysia, saying that MCA had worked hard to ensure the project's success and it would continue to assist in the project's completion.

"MCA is overjoyed that this visit has culminated with many breakthroughs and we hope that our two nations can continue in achieving consensus to benefit both," he said.
