KUALA LUMPUR - Be patient, stay calm and allow the special task force to carry out its investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has urged the public.
He said the people should not speculate on the matter until the task force had completed its probe.
He added that the setting up of the high-level task force - comprising Bank Negara Malaysia, Attorney-General's Chambers, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the police - was unprecedented and believed that the truth would finally be known.
"We stand by the Prime Minister to find out the truth.
"What is important is that the truth must prevail once the investigation is completed to ensure that we are accountable to the people," he told a press conference after chairing the party's presidential council meeting here yesterday.
Liow said the Government was doing its best to ensure that the country was "run transparently and with good governance".
"So, to speculate at this juncture is just conjecture," he added.
On 1MDB's criticism of The Star for what the company called "sloppy reporting" in regard to two articles the newspaper ran on Saturday, Liow said MCA had never interfered in the daily's editorial affairs.
He said the daily would have to clarify if there was any misreporting, and every paper must be responsible for the news it published.
The Wall Street Journal had claimed that US$700mil (S$946 million) from the 1MDB funds were banked in to Najib's bank account.
