NIBONG TEBAL, Malaysia - MCA continues to work hard for the people although all of its candidates in Penang lost in last year's general election (GE).
Citing an example, party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the Nibong Tebal MCA division had raised RM100,000 (S$39,082) to help the local community here.
Two schools - SJKC Pai Teik and SM Tunku Abdul Rahman - would be given RM30,000 each, while a community kindergarten in Kampung Changkat would get RM20,000.
The balance of RM20,000 would be given to charitable organisations in the area.
Liow commended Penang MCA vice-chairman Tan Cheng Liang, who is also Nibong Tebal MCA division chief, as an exemplary leader who worked tirelessly despite losing in the election.
"This is the spirit of MCA. We will not give up and let the rakyat down," said Liow.
"The MCA, in the phase of transformation, has launched the 'Stronger Together' campaign. We will always be with the community.
"Safeguarding the rights and interest of the people is always our commitment and that of Barisan Nasional," Liow told reporters after attending a dinner hosted by the division in conjunction with the party's 65th anniversary on Friday night.
More than 1,400 people attended the event at SJKC Pai Teik here.
Liow also took a swipe at Pakatan Rakyat, saying that the coalition was revealing its true colours of merely fighting for its own cause.
He said the three parties in the coalition had their own agenda, as could be seen from the Selangor mentri besar fiasco.
