KUALA LUMPUR - MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun called for DAP and Pakatan Rakyat to apologise for misusing gender factors to garner votes in Permatang Pauh.

This was following an article published in Sin Chew Daily on Tuesday , where DAP and PKR had called for Chew to apologise after belittling women by using the term 'housewife' during a press conference in Permatang Pauh.

"I wish to make it clear that never once had I mentioned nor referred to the PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ibrahim as a housewife.

"The perception of ' housewife antics' were introduced by an online portal (Malaysiakini), and not by me," she said during a press conference on the MCA headquarters here on Tuesday.

Citing a recent article written by an online portal titled MCA tired of Azizah's housewife antics, Chew said she never mentioned the term housewife and never intended to demean Wan Azizah.

"PKR and DAP representatives however have seized the opportunity to accuse me of doing so.

"They did not check facts and rushed to call a press conference merely based on the headline of that article by that portal, to chastise me while diverting the issue to be on gender," she said adding that the roles and contributions of a housewife is never ending.

Chew played to reporters the actual recording taken in Permatang Pauh and clarified that she had not said anything along those lines.
