PETALING JAYA - All Malaysians are united as one behind Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in seeking justice for the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 tragedy, said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.
In a media statement Friday, the veteran opposition MP said Malaysians fully backed Najib's call for "swift justice" against the perpetrators who shot at the MH17 civilian aircraft in Ukrainian airspace, murdering the 298 passengers and crew on board.
"Malaysians reel with incredulity, shock and grief at another major air disaster to hit the country involving another Boeing 777 jet in less than five months," said Lim, who extended the nation's condolences to the bereaved families and friends of all on board the ill-fated flight.
The Gelang Patah MP also urged the international community to condemn and demand an international inquiry into the criminal downing of MH17 and bring the criminals to justice "whether the culprits are Russians, the pro-Russian Ukrainian separatists or the Ukranians."
"The Malaysian authorities should launch an immediate international diplomatic initiative into the MH 17 catastrophe to ensure that no stone is left unturned to ensure a credible and comprehensive international inquiry.
"Like the still unresolved MH 370 disappearance, the MH 17 disaster is not just a national catastrophe but an international calamity, as the victims are nationalities from at least nine nations," he added.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said early Friday that Ukrainian authorities believe that the Kuala Lumpur-bound Boeing 777 was shot down.
Flight tracking data indicated that the plane was at its cruising altitude of 33,000 feet when it disappeared from radar screens in eastern Ukraine at around 1415 GMT.
