KUALA LUMPUR - No favours were given to the pro-Russian separatists when a deal was brokered between them and Malaysia to hand over the black boxes and remains of Flight MH17 victims, says Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said this in response to questions raised by several Opposition MPs who asked if the separatists had demanded anything in return.
"It was done in a smart way by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak).
"Perhaps the deal was done after explanations on how vital it was for our country and the world, perhaps that is why Alexander Borodai, the Russian separatists leader, had agreed to the deal without any conditions or favours in return.
"There is nothing in the deal. There were no other deals - the PM has told me," said Muhyiddin in wrapping up the motion tabled yesterday.
Muhyiddin also said the Government has formed a special investigation team, comprising representatives from the police, the Department of Civil Aviation and other relevant agencies to ensure investigations could start as soon as possible.
Every effort will be taken to ensure the responsible parties will be brought to justice, he added.
