GEORGE TOWN- The ashes of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) steward Sanjid Singh Sandhu were scattered in the sea off the Batu Maung coast here.
His father Jijar Singh, 71, arrived at the Batu Uban marine police base carrying the urn of ashes, along with Sanjid's wife Tan Bee Geok and son Hans Singh Sandhu from his house in Alma, Bukit Mertajam at about 10am yesterday.
They were met by state executive councillors Jagdeep Singh Deo and Phee Boon Poh, state secretary Datuk Farizan Darus and state deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan and other state officials.
The group later boarded a marine police boat while Tan and several relatives remained on shore.
The final rites were performed during a 20-minute ceremony at sea. Hans then scattered the ashes.
Sanjid was among the 298 people aboard MAS Flight MH17 who perished when the plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17.
