MH370: PM Najib's full speech on tabling a special motion

KUALA LUMPUR: Following is the text of the speech by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when tabling the special motion to express sadness and regret over the tragedy befalling Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 at the Dewan Rakyat, here today:

" Tuan Yang Dipertua, I wish to table a motion as follows:

" That this august house expresses deep sadness and regret regarding the tragedy that befell the passengers and crew of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370.

" That this august house records its deepest condolences to the whole family, friends and acquaintances of the passengers and crew of the flight MH370.

" That this august house also expresses its highest appreciation to everyone involved in giving their cooperation and assistance in the search and rescue (SAR) operations especially to the foreign countries that had provided much help in the operation.

" And that this august house records its highest appreciation and gratitude for all the commitment and great sacrifices by all the workers and members involved in the SAR operations."

" Tuan Yang Dipertua, I believe members of this august house have been following the official statements that have been issued since the MH370tragedy struck on March 8.

" The statement that I issued last night had clearly shown that we had received indications based on the satellite analyses which can be said to be conclusive that the flight MH370had ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

" As such, what we need to do in the weeks and probably months to come is to search for fragments of the framework as well as objects related to the flight MH370so that we can confirm without any doubt that the aircraft had disappeared in the southern Indian Ocean.

" Since the tragedy struck, the government had taken coordinated measures with all the agencies involved. " In addition, we held to the principle that whatever statement that we make must be confirmed first before it was issued formally by the government."
