Fireworks damage: Passers-by taking a closer look at the shop after the blast at Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth.

BUTTERWORTH - A mini market that stored firecrackers went up in flames, setting off a series of explosions in Jalan Raja Uda here.

The fire on Saturday also destroyed three motorcycles parked in front of the shop.

"Fortunately, nobody was inside the shop during the 11.30pm incident," said a state Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.

North Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said the owner was a 51-year-old businessman.

"Investigations showed that there were firecrackers and fireworks kept inside the store room," he said.

"We're still trying do determine the cause of the fire," ACP Abdul Rahman said.

"The owner will be called up to explain the firecrackers found in his shop."
