Molotov cocktail thrown into Penang Chief Minister's house

PETALING JAYA - A Molotov cocktail was thrown into the compound of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's house on Jalan Pinhorn here Saturday night.

No one was hurt in the 11.48pm incident, which left burn marks in the garden of Lim's residence.

Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the attack was believed to have been committed by individuals riding a motorcycle, and forensic investigations showed the bottle used in the attack contained kerosene.

Abdul Rahim said CCTV footage of the area around Lim's home was being examined to identify suspects.

He added that the case has been classified as arson under Section 435 of the Penal Code and called on eyewitnesses to come forward to assist police with investigations.

News portals reported that Wong Kim Fei, Lim's press secretary, said he would go ahead with his plan to attend state-level Merdeka Day celebrations at Padang Kota Lama Sunday.

Wong also said that the DAP secretary-general would not be issuing a statement on the incident as it was an ongoing police investigation.
