KOTA KINABALU - More than 200 illegal immigrants have been rounded up in the state as security forces continued an operation to flush them out amid concerns of threats in the east coast.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) personnel moved into Lahad Datu and the surrounding areas in an operation lasting from 5.30am to 11am yesterday.

Esscom commander Datuk Abdul Rashid said the operation to arrest illegal immigrants would not stop in the district until the place was cleared of them.

"We will make sure that Lahad Datu becomes an illegal-free district," he said, adding that the operation would move to other areas under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone.

He advised employers and locals not to hire illegal immigrants or harbour anyone without valid documents.
