Mother of 3 killed in crash with express bus

MERSING - A mother of three died when the car she was travelling in with her family was hit by an express bus at KM3 on the Endau-Mersing road here.

Nor Liana Azan, 33, was in the backseat with her three children when the bus, ferrying 22 passengers from Kemaman in Terengganu to Kulai, crashed into the rear of the car.

She suffered serious head injuries in the 12.45am accident yesterday and died on the spot.

The car was driven by Nor Liana's brother while her husband was in the front passenger seat.

Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt M. Kumar said Nor Liana's family members escaped with light injuries and were treated at the Mersing Hospital.

The bus driver and passengers were not injured, he added.

He said initial investigations showed that the bus might have been speeding and that the driver could have lost control of the vehicle before the collision.

"We have detained the bus driver," he said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.
