Mother looks for ‘kidnapped’ child - who was next door

A mother thought her nine-year-old child was kidnapped when he went shopping with a neighbour, whom he had recently met, for 10 hours without informing his family members, China Press reported.

The 49-year-old mother could not find her son when she returned home from work at about 11am on Saturday.

She lodged a police report the same day. The news of the missing boy also went viral on the Internet, when the mother and friends urged the public to keep a lookout for the boy.

Police found the boy just next door to his house in Penang when the officer went to check on the neighbour, who was last seen with the boy before he "went missing".

The boy told reporters that he had accompanied the woman who wanted to catch a movie, go shopping and have dinner before returning to her house.

The neighbour told reporters that she had done nothing wrong by taking the boy shopping. "He was bored," she said.
