KUALA LUMPUR: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor displayed a tough stance on Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's suspension as deputy president, alluding even to a sacking.
Asked yesterday whether Muhyiddin's membership could be stripped, he said: "Can."
Tengku Adnan said a letter and report had been given to the Umno disciplinary board on Muhyiddin.
"They have not sacked him but it is up to the board if he still goes on doing things that damage the party."
He dispelled talk that Umno was undemocratic, saying the supreme council could have sacked him but it did not resort to such an action.
Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said Muhyiddin lost the opportunity to defend himself when he did not show up at Friday's meeting.
He should have used the opportunity to explain himself, she said.
"The meeting was supposed to be the best venue for Tan Sri to come and share his views," she said.
