Muslims advised not to fall for fake Haj packages

MALAYSIA - Muslims were advised not to fall for private companies offering the complete Haj package with visa without having to go through Tabung Haji, Sinar Harian reported.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said there were still cases of Muslims stranded during the Haj season because of the difficulty in getting the visas.

"We discovered that many Haj pilgrims were stranded at the airport in Kuala Lumpur because they were actually registered with certain companies and not with Tabung Haji," he said in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

He said that investigations showed that many companies involved had made various package offers and claimed that they could get visas directly from the Saudi government or buy visa quota from neighbouring countries.

Jamil Khir said it was not possible for companies to get visas directly from the Saudi government because the issuing of the haj visas was dealt with directly between governments.
