Najib informed Muhyiddin of removal less than 2 hours before announcement

KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was informed of his removal from Cabinet less than two hours before the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made his official announcement on Tuesday.

“He called me to meet him at Putrajaya and we discussed a few things. I asked him why I was called and if it had anything to do with the reshuffle. He nodded.

“Then I asked him if he had something to tell me. He had a hard time saying so I asked is it that my name is not on the list. He nodded and I said ‘thank you’ and left,” Muhyiddin said of the 12.15pm meeting.

He added, however, that he would continue to support Najib in his capacity as Umno deputy president.

“My duties are to support the president and the party. I will continue to do so,” he said.

The former deputy prime minister further advised his supporters, who may be upset over his omission from Cabinet, to remember their responsibility to the party and to remain united.

“Even though this has happened to me, it is not about me. It is about the future of the country and the party,” he said.

Muhyiddin added that investigations into1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) must continue despite the changes in Cabinet, the Public Accounts Committee and the Attorney-General’s post.

“The investigations must and will continue as this concerns the people and they have a right to know.

“I hope the new AG will not only continue the investigation thoroughly but also expedite it to bring closure for the people in this matter,” he said.

On his own future, Muhyiddin said he would take some time to “compose himself” before deciding on his next move.

“This just happened so give me some time to make a rational and responsible decision.

“But my priority is always to the party,” he said.

Muhyiddin also thanked everyone for the support and encouragement he has received since his removal from Cabinet.

“I had a good sleep but I went to bed late because I was reading all the messages from so many people.

“Thank you all for the kind and supportive messages. I appreciate it very much,” he said.
