Najib launches National Football Development Plan

KUANTAN - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched the much awaited National Football Development Plan (NFDP) describing it as the roadmap to return Malaysian football to its glory years.

He said NFDP was a national-level project and to ensure its success, the plan required strong support from all quarters.

"This plan will not only involve the Sports and Youth ministry, Education Ministry and Football Association of Malaysia. It also needs the support from the private sector, schools and parents.

"Football is the number one sport in the country and has a huge group of followers. Fans are always hoping to see Malaysian football return to its heyday, when the team was the favourite during tournaments," he said in his speech during the launch of the NFDP at the Nationall Football Academy in Gambang here today.

Najib hoped the NFDP will serve as a platform for the young talents to prove themselves as future football stars.

He also announced that the football academy in Gambang would be renamed after the legendary Malaysian footballer Mokhtar Dahari and would be known as Akademi Bola Sepak Negara Mokhtar Dahari.
