A semi-paralysed 80-year-old man was saved from his filthy "prison" by the authorities thanks to efforts by his concerned neighbours.

Kosmo! reported that the man, known only as Tong Ngad, was locked up naked and was found with his faeces all over the floor at a house in Taman Inderapura, Kuantan.

District police chief Asst Comm Abd Aziz Salleh said Tong Ngad has a daughter and two sons.

He said one of the sons had left the man in the house since Monday and none of the family members came back to check on him.

It was learnt that the man's daughter was in Kuala Lumpur while his sons were living in Kuantan.

Police are looking for the man's children to find out why he was abandoned and neglected.

A neighbour, Sheikh Mohd Mazlan Sheikh Ramli, 52, said he saw Tong Ngad's son leave the house on Monday night.

He said after he and several other neighbours fed Tong Ngad, they called the authorities on Thursday when the stench from the faeces became unbearable.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel had to prise open the grill and door of the house to reach the man.
