New born-baby found in flat on Christmas Day

GEORGE TOWN - A new-born baby believed to be delivered on Christmas was found abandoned at a flat in Paya Terubong.

George Town Deputy OCPD Supt Ismail Toh Paduka Idris said policeman from the Air Itam police station received a phone call at about 8am regarding a baby found at the corridor on the 21st-floor of a flat.

The baby has been sent to Penang Hospital for observation he said.

"We already have some leads in this case based on the information from the residents there," said Ismail when contacted.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old toddler was found loitering at the Tapak Pesta in Sungai Nibong on the same day.

Ismail said Tapak Pesta workers found the girl alone when they were closing at about 2.30am.

"When asked, the girl could only identify herself as Jihan but she couldn't answer anything more about her parents.

"No identification papers were found on her. I believed she was separated from her family when they visited Pesta on Christmas Eve," he said.

He added that until 6pm Wednesday, no one has come forward to lodge a missing persons report at the police stations in Penang.

The girl is undergoing a medical check-up at the Penang Hospital.
