KUALA LUMPUR - The setting up a non-governmental organisation (NGO) linked to CIMB Group chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak is still in the planning stage, said Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) chief executive officer Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said it (NGO) had yet to be decided and the statement by Nazir on Wednesday was clear that he merely had a conversation with some people on the matter.

"It so happens that includes me...there is a thinking that we want to form a new NGO to address some of the pertinent socio-political and economic situations in the country.

"The only thing I can say now is that it (NGO) is still in the planning stage.

We are talking to the people," he told a press conference.

Nazir quashed news reports that he was setting up a new political party.

Instead, he said he was in discussion over the setting up of an NGO but it remained just an idea at the moment.

On whether there would be an overlap of functions involving the GMM, Saifuddin said GMM was a think-tank belonging to the government while the NGO was independent.
