PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - The Foreign Ministry confirmed that no Malaysians were injured in the 5.7 magnitude earthquake which struck Christchurch, New Zealand, on Saturday.
It said in a statement that the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington was monitoring the situation.
"Malaysians in New Zealand are advised to be in constant contact with the High Commission and obey all safety orders by authorities in New Zealand," said the statement.
The earthquake occurred exactly a week before the fifth anniversary of New Zealand's worst earthquake in 2011 which killed 185 people.
It was also reported that the New Zealand's official earthquake monitoring service, GeoNet Science, had warned of aftershocks following the tremor.
