No special intelligence units under Malaysia Home Ministry

PUTRAJAYA - The Home Ministry has confirmed that there are no special intelligence units under its wings which are allegedly authorised to carry out enforcement activities on its behalf.

The statement was issued in reference to the arrest of a relative of a VVIP in Alor Gajah on Aug 31, who claimed to be a ministry's intelligence officer and handed over a card with the words "Intelligence" and "Special Unit of Home Ministry" printed on it.

Bukit Aman has confirmed that such cards were fake.

"The man who produced the card claimed that he had obtained the authority card from the ministry in April.

"Similar cases have been reported before in 2011 and the ministry has issued statements relating to the matter (then).

"We wish to advise the public against being deceived by any parties who claim to be in possession of these cards," the ministry's senior deputy secretary-general (security) Datuk Alwi Ibrahim said yesterday.

He reaffirmed that all officers representing the ministry would carry only the official card issued by the Chief of Government Security Officer for identification purposes.

Members of the public with information on any impostors who abuse the ministry's authorisation cards are urged to report the matter to the police.
