IPOH: One person was killed and another injured when a trailer crashed into a tanker lorry on the North-South Expressway near the Menora Tunnel.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the trailer is believed to have rear-ended the tanker at about 11.55pm on Wednesday.

The accident also caused the tanker, which was carrying latex liquid, to spill some of its contents on the road.

"The deceased was found pinned under one of the trailer's wheels.

"We extracted him and handed him over to the police but he was pronounced dead by medical personnel," the spokesman said, adding that the trailer was carrying steel sheets.

The injured victim was sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment while the driver of the tanker escaped unhurt.

A Hazmat team is at the site of the accident to clean up the chemical spill.

The southbound lanes of the highway near the site of the incident have been closed for 150m and a contra flow has been opened for traffic heading south.
