SHAH ALAM - PKR has yet to discuss its official position on Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), made up of mostly leaders ousted in the last PAS party polls.
Its deputy president Azmin Ali said it was not a question of personal support but that it involved decision at the party level.
“It is a party decision that needs to be brought to the political bureau for discussion,” he said during the state government’s Hari Raya open house at Stadium Shah Alam here yesterday.
Azmin, who is also Selangor Mentri Besar, said he did not wish to get involved in PAS’ internal squabble and believed that the party would have the wisdom to amicably resolve the issue.
PKR in Selangor is caught between throwing its support behind PAS and GHB after the Islamist party’s ulama council proposed to sever ties with DAP.
Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Samad had also recently said that GHB’s formation would only benefit Barisan Nasional and that if DAP were to contest in PAS seats, this would only split votes for the opposition.
GHB committee member Khalid Samad urged the people to wait and see what the next development is.
“I am not a soothsayer and I cannot predict the future. But I am confident that GHB can get (support) from new voters, fence-sitters as well as Barisan supporters based on feedback on social media,” he said at the open house.
GHB’s programmes, said Khalid, had been attracting people from various backgrounds, including non-Malays.
