AMPANG- Swift action by a seven-year-old has saved her from being abducted when she jumped out of a moving vehicle during a car theft incident in Taman Keramat here.
The brave girl only sustained injuries on her back, arms and legs and had bruises on the buttock.
According to the girl's uncle, who only wanted to be known as Hafiz and who was at the scene with his brother, Sham, 35, and niece Sofea at about 12.30pm yesterday at a car workshop, the incident occurred very fast.
"It happened very fast. My brother tried to save his daughter who was still in the Mitsubishi Triton as a man tried to steal it.
"My brother tried to stop the suspect but he managed to drive away," he said, adding that his brother also suffered injuries on his hand and legs.
The 28-year-old Hafiz said Sofea attempted the escape after the car had travelled about 700m from the scene.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairuldin Saad confirmed the incident.
He said the father of the girl was outside the car when a man in a grey Proton Persona approached the vehicle.
"We believe that the suspect was using a cellphone while he walked towards the victim's vehicle before stealing it," he said.
ACP Khairuldin said police found the traumatised girl near the scene.
"We have recorded statements from a few witnesses to assist in investigations," he said.
"The suspect is believed to be in his early 30s, slim and tall with brownish complexion," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
