KUALA LUMPUR - Umno needs a new roadmap that spells out specific targets that the party and its leader need to achieve from now until the next general election.
Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Umno needed a new storyboard to help the country attain the high income nation status.
With the 13th general election and party polls now over, Umno and its members need to have a new vision to move forward.
This was the message that he conveyed to Umno delegates ahead of the party's general assembly, the first held after the May 5 general election and the party polls in October.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said Najib announced that he would introduce "Key Performance Index" (KPI) targets for party leaders at every level.
"This is to ensure Umno will be seen by the people as a party that delivers," said Shafie.
Supreme council member Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Najib also told delegates that the Malays must play a more active role in the economy so they would not be left behind when Malaysia becomes a high income nation in seven years.
"The president spent quite some time stressing on the importance of the Malays being economically strong," said Rahman.
