Police: DPP will decide on fate of Good Samaritans

PETALING JAYA - Police say they will leave it to the Deputy Public Prosecutor to decide whether to take action against the two men who attempted to help AirAsia employee Shahrinawati Abu Bakar during the snatch theft incident but caused her death instead.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin said the two men were not detained and were only questioned about the incident which happened on Thursday.

"After taking down their statements, both were released. I think they were only trying to do a good deed but unfortunately, it went wrong," he said yesterday.

"It is up to the DPP to decide whether or not they would be charged, but for now we are still investigating the case."

ACP Amiruddin said police had arrested a suspect, believed to be one of the snatch thieves, who attacked the victim.

"We are focusing our attention on looking for the second suspect," he said.
