Police release two in relation to Estonian model's death

JOHOR BAHRU - Police have released two of the seven people detained in relation to the murder of freelance Estonian model Regina Soosalu, who was mysteriously found dead in Pulau Rawa recently.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said that the two were released on Tuesday (July 8) after police recorded their statements and other relevant details in regards to Soosalu's death.

"The other five are still being detained to assist in investigations," he said in a statement here on Sunday.

ACP Hasnan said that the seven people detained for questioning were aged between 25 years and 35 years old.

"We are investigating the case from all angles and waiting for a full post-mortem report and DNA testing to conduct our investigations further.

"Upon completing investigations, we will refer the case to the public prosecutor's office for further actions," he added.

It was reported that Soosalu, who was on a short vacation with her boyfriend Tunku Alang Reza Ibrahim, was initially thought to have drowned at the island on July 1.

However police later classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder after discovering suspicious wounds on the victim's body.

It was also reported that close friends in the modelling industry found out about her death about six days after the incident occurred while and her boyfriend posted a heartfelt touching message on Facebook letting the world know of her death only a week later.

Soosalu and Tunku Alang Reza were also reportedly involved in a drug case in January and were even brought to court in May to face charges.
