KOTA KINABALU - A post box close to the summit of the 4,095m-high Mount Kinabalu looks set to write itself into a record of sorts.
Placed at the 3,289m mark by Pos Malaysia, near the mountain's Pendant Hut accommodation, it will enable trekkers to mail their postcards from that altitude.
"A special self-inking date stamp of Mount Kinabalu and its altitude print is available at Ranau post office as the cancellation mark," said Pos Malaysia's covering group chief executive officer Azlan Shahrim.
"It will become a new attraction for travellers as they can commemorate their climb by sending mail from the highest altitude in the country," he said.
The post box, which is the 3,110th post box in the country, was launched by Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari here yesterday.
Azlan said Pos Malaysia hoped the initiative would further raise the profile of Mount Kinabalu to the world.
