PUTRAJAYA - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must provide evidence to substantiate his claims against the Prime Minister, said Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.
The former MIC president claimed it was not fair for the ex-premier to be hurling allegations without proof.
"Whatever Dr Mahathir wants to say, he has to provide evidence for it.
"If he wants to blame others, he must provide sufficient evidence, then we can see if it is right or not," Samy Vellu said to reporters when met at the Prime Minister's Hari Raya open house here, Friday.
Samy was a Cabinet minister during Dr Mahathir's reign as premier.
Of late, Dr Mahathir has gone on a tirade against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, particularly on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.
Samy, who is currently the Malaysian special envoy to India and South Asia on infrastructure, also defended Najib.
"He does not need to be asked to go on leave.
"If every time something happens, and we ask the PM to take leave, the country will not survive.
"The PM should put his case and he will win. I'm sure he will win," added Samy.
