Relocation finally in sight for 1,300 families

NEARLY 1,300 families residing in the Jinjang Utara settlement longhouses since the 1990s will soon see an end to their plight, reported Tamil Nesan.

DBKL's Housing Management and Community Development Department director Wan Mohammad Ghazali told the residents on Sunday that they would be relocated to low-cost apartments being built near the settlement by year's end.

The 17-storey apartments, jointly developed by DBKL and private companies, are 80% complete and will be sold to the settlers at RM42,000 each.

Relocated to Jinjang Utara A, B, and C phase settlements in the 1990s to make way for infrastructure development in Segambut, Sentul, Pudu, Sungai Besi and Kepong, the families were initially promised permanent residences within two years.
